User Information Collection

This notice applies to all information collected or submitted on the Depths application.

Depths occasionally needs to collect information for convenience, practicality, or technical requirements. This information includes:

• Your chosen username, which may be your email address or name. A username is technically required so you can log in from multiple computers and devices. We encourage you to use your email address to make "forgot password" functionality possible.
• Your chosen password, which is empty by default. A hash of your password is stored in the Depths database, and the plain-text password is only used for hash comparison to the stored value.
• Your credit card and related payment information, if you choose to subscribe to our paid subscription service. Our third party payment processors will collect and handle your credit card and related payment information. Such third party processors’ use of your personal information is governed by their respective privacy policies.
• The titles, URLs (addresses), and selected text of the pages you save to Depths, folder-specific bookmarklets, Depths applications, third-party applications using the Depths API, and any other means with which to add pages to Depths.
• Like most Web sites, Depths also collects and stores information automatically and through the use of electronic tools that may be transparent to our visitors. For example, we may log the name of your Internet Service Provider, your IP address, and information provided by and about your Internet browser. As we adopt additional technology, we may also gather similar information through other means.

Usage of Collected Information

We use the information you provide to operate Depths features and perform our contract to you. We do not share this information with outside parties except to the extent necessary to accomplish Depths functionality.

We use return email addresses to answer the email we receive, whether it is to respond to your inquiries, to provide customer support and to supply any products or services you have requested. In addition, if you choose to use Depths to share content with another person, we will use the recipient's email address or user account information to provide that service, but we will not use that email address for any other purpose. All provided email addresses are not used for any other purpose than the functionality of Depths and are not shared with outside parties.

The aggregated information we use includes the manner in which articles, videos, or content has been accessed, saved and shared. We may use aggregated information to offer a list of top sites or content, to make recommendations to our users, to report on usage and trends, to improve the products and services that we offer, or to develop new products and services.

When information is used in this or a similar manner, we do not disclose anything that could be used to identify the individuals on whom the information is based.

We may disclose your information in response to subpoenas, court orders, or other legal processes, or to establish or exercise our legal rights or to defend against legal claims.

We may disclose your information when we believe it necessary or desirable in order to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to the physical safety of any person, violations of our policies, and/or to protect our rights and property.

Internal Handling of Information

Keeping Information

We will keep your information only for as long as we need it to provide you services, manage our business or as required by law or contract.

Transferring Information

We use service providers whose computers may also be in various countries. This means that your information might end up on one of those computers in another country, and that country may have a different level of data protection regulation than yours. By giving us information, you consent to this kind of transfer of your information. No matter what country your information is in, we comply with applicable law and will also abide by the commitments we make in this privacy policy.
